Role and Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and perform repairs to various types of specialize equipment and heavy duty trucks
  • Perform repairs to hydraulic system including making hoses, rebuilding hydraulic cylinders and pumps
  • Perform diagnostic testing on hydraulic systems using hydraulic flowmeter and pressure gauges
  • Perform diagnostic and repairs to complex electrical system to include charging / starting  / lighting systems
  • Perform diagnostic and repairs to diesel and propane fuel systems
  • Mount and assembly equipment and attachments for special builds
  • Perform DOT and various safety inspections
  • Perform preventative maintenance services on various types of equipment
  • Make hoses to fit and replace in equipment
  • Perform basic and electronic engine controls diagnostic and repairs
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to become certified in specialized equipment for inspections and repairs
  • Willingness to become certified in Hi-rail equipment repair and inspections
  • Possess advanced mechanical skills
  • Basic electrical knowledge and applied electrical theory
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting and diagnostic on various type of equipment
  • Ability to work with minimum supervisor and stay focused on job at hand
  • Ability to use various types of test equipment
  • Must be willing to learn repair work processes on various types of equipment
  • Must have basic diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Must be willing to work with Mechanic A Technician and follow directions provided
  • Possess basic hydraulic, wiring, and electrical system knowledge
  • Ability to use welding/cutting torch
  • Must have ability to effectively communicate parts needed
  • Must be computer literate
  • Must have ability to obtain Virginia State Inspector License

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year experience in heavy duty repair preferred
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Successful applicant must complete a pre-employment drug test and background check
  • Have a current Driver's License, CDL preferred, with good and reliable transportation
  • Work in a fast-paced industrial environment wearing vision protection, steel-toed shoes/boots and other appropriate protective clothing
  • Candidate must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand on concrete for an extended period of time
